ABSTRACT
This Chapter will cover the medical background of the glaucoma disease. The human eye, the image acquisition of the retina, medical overview of the glaucoma disease and retinal image assessment, the digital image processing techniques and mathematical background. Thus color retinal fundus camera is widely used to photograph the retina and the fundus camera is stable technology, give true color of the retina, low cost and widespread use, it has been the chosen images for this CAD system.
The mathematical background for digital fundus image processing will be explained in four main steps:
Step (1) – Preprocessing: Image Enhancement.
Step (2) – Processing: Image Segmentation.
Step (3) – Post-Processing: Features Extraction and Selection.
Step (4) – Classification to diagnose the disease.
