ABSTRACT

Rachel Chavkin is a New York-based director who has worked on and off Broadway, as well as throughout America, for many years. The production used the space very creatively, creating platforms and catwalks running across the room for the actors to use, thus completely eliminating the separation between the performers and the audience. Musicians were also in plain sight and were organically incorporated in the narrative. Chavkin’s style is deeply grounded in collaboration, and bridges diverse art forms to provide the audience with a more sensorial and immediate experience. Chavkin speaks in an upfront, non-compromising way about inclusivity for women and artists of color as she negotiates her artistic team.
