ABSTRACT
Born 4 October 1916 in Moscow, Russia. Graduated from Moscow State University in 1938. Defended candidate dissertation (PhD) in Moscow State University in 1940. From 1940 until now works in P N Lebedev Physical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences (now the Russian Academy of Sciences) . In 1942 defended DSc dissertation. From 1971 till 1988-head (director) of I E Tamm Department of Theoretical Physics, from 1988 till now adviser in Russian Academy of Sciences and head of the theoretical group in P N Lebedev Physical Institute (known as FIAN). From 1945 for several years was visiting professor at Gorky State University and from 1968 till now professor at the Moscow Physico-Technical Institute. From 1998 Editor-in-Chief of Uspekhi Fizicheskikh Nauk (Physics-Uspekhi) journal.
