Testing and Evaluation
Testing, of course, is critical to understanding whether the system will perform according to expectations, and those expectations are shaped by the myriad ways in which a health IT system is called upon to store, transfer and analyze health information in today’s multifaceted healthcare organizations. The fact is that many people are expecting to utilize a health IT system from seemingly countless ways, so health IT professionals must ensure that the system they’ve just implemented is up to the challenge. That means understanding a broad range of testing methodologies that test a system under a variety of circumstances and with a variety of purposes in mind. It also means understanding the steps necessary to ensure that the system is protected and maintained so that its capabilities are always available. Finally, it means understanding the range of financial, clinical and user-oriented benchmarks that are involved in ensuring a system is ready and able to deliver the necessary outcomes.
