Some Research up to 1960

During my first years as head of the Cavendish it was my job to get to know the various research groups. Radio-astronomy under Martin Ryle was all set for great success. (In 1974 Ryle and his collaborator Antony Hewish were to be awarded the Nobel prize for physics for their work on this subject). I was heavily involved in efforts to find a site for their observatory.
