ABSTRACT

This chapter explores what data are and the purpose they serve. It gives examples of appropriate data sources for early childhood teacher research including existing data, teacher journals, child artifacts and work samples, surveys, interviews, and other documents. Data artifacts from teacher research studies are used to provide examples of data sources. The relationship of each research question and its connection to a data source is emphasized. The main point of this chapter is to show that data come from the everyday life and activities of the classroom.
