Creating the Student’s Profile
In this chapter you will learn how to construct the student’s academic profile using the test data, observations of the student’s approach to tasks during the assessment, his/her affect, comments, level of engagement and persistence, along with the test format and construction. These all need to be integrated. None are sufficient by themselves to gain a nuanced understanding of the student’s strengths and weaknesses. Chapter 4 explains my “constellation approach” that uses a group of questions, attributes and/or descriptors to create working hypotheses which may be tested during the assessment process. Hypothesis testing, along with actual test results, are critical to determining different types of learning issues and to create an accurate learner’s profile.
