ABSTRACT
Crossbar switch fabrics have become the preferred switch fabric architectures for implementing today’s high-performance switches, switch/routers and routers. Chapter 3 provides a review of the different switch/router architectures that use crossbar switch fabric as their internal interconnects. This chapter also discusses the main issues involved in the design of switch/routers that use crossbar switch fabrics including the limitations and advantages of each architecture type.
