ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of the book. It begins by outlining the dramatic growth of the internet in a short space of time, helped by the rapid consumption of tablets and smartphones that allow internet access away from purely the home or place of work or study. The second section provides an overview of why we wrote this book, most notably through our experience of online research in a revolution of data potential that now encourages the use of a variety of online methods. The third section reviews the content of the book’s six main chapters. Finally, the last section focuses on our approach to the remaining chapters and the ways in which we have structured them to develop the knowledge of readers not only through the content we cover, but also through the various activities and questions we provide.
