The recent death of Edwin Way Teale, the author of countless articles and books in natural history, brings sadness and a sense of loss to thousands of his readers. Americans were fortunate to have had this thoughtful, keenly observant and generous man among them. Teale’s greatest contributions lay in a profound appreciation of nature and eagerness to share his adventures with friends and his host of readers here and elsewhere.
