ABSTRACT

The second chapter develops an analytical framework based on the work of Hanna F. Pitkin, which conceptualizes parliamentary representation broadly, separating it into the three distinct but related views – formalistic representation, descriptive representation, and substantive representation. The empirical analysis will be structured along the representation components which cover the whole breadth of the representative relationship, starting from candidacies and elections under limited competitive elections, to parliaments’ composition and finishing with patterns of MPs’ actions on behalf of citizens. The chapter also contains a brief methodological section.
