ABSTRACT

Reformulated in modern terminology, chronos is a time of more or less normal events, while kairos is a period of turbulence bringing about change and opening opportunities for interventions influencing the future. Not always can a stretch of time be characterized as tending more toward chronos or kairos. Without judging their qualities and policies, we can see that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and US President Donald Trump seem to be leaders coming to power thanks to personality traits fitting kairos time, who in turn reinforce its turbulence. To generalize, kairos times increase the likelihood of 'mutant' political leaders coming to power, whether being Promethean or toxic. The two models provide a good starting line for considering the new genre of upgraded political leaders which is urgently needed for ultimate, but far from exclusive, direction of human evolution steering.
