Budgeting for Monographs, Serials, and Electronic Databases — How Should the Tart Be Cut?

Before launching into details perhaps the title should be briefly explained. The first sentence of the title identifies a very difficult process. The second sentence is perhaps a bit of cynicism resulting from dealing with inadequate funding for library acquisitions for several years. A tart is defined as “a small pie” and the acquisitions pie seems to become constantly smaller due to rampant inflation, profiteering, and demands for resources in new formats (and their associated ongoing costs).
