ABSTRACT

Acritical element for successful knowledge management and for advancing the organizational intelligence of an entity is to be able to transform individualized learning into organizational learning. A learning organization is an organization that has an enhanced capacity to learn, adapt, and change. Internal learning within the organization and external learning between organizations must be conducted to enhance overall organizational intelligence. One way of transforming individual learning into organizational learning is to make the individual learning experiences readily available and accessible to those in the organization via compiling them into a knowledge repository. Building a supportive culture to encourage organizational learning and growth is critical to developing a learning organization. Monsanto Company is a leader in leveraging its collective intellect. One of the techniques the company uses as part of their knowledge management methodology is called the “knowledge map.”
