ABSTRACT

In terms of leading with technology, a technology infrastructure is necessary, but insufficient in knowledge projects. For leading with decision making, apply lessons learned to improve decision-making and value knowledge by calculating its costs when absent. At American Management Systems, a large consulting firm, knowledge centers were established in the company’s core competencies. Various organizations have used a variety of knowledge management strategies. According to C. O’Dell and K. Wiig, there are six major knowledge management strategies. The first is to use knowledge management as a business strategy. A second strategy is to have a transfer of knowledge and best practices. A third strategy is customer-focused knowledge, whereby customer knowledge is captured, developed, and transferred. A fourth strategy is personal responsibility for knowledge. A fifth strategy is intellectual asset management. A sixth strategy is innovation and knowledge creation. Both public and private organizations are considering ways of benefiting from some of the knowledge management concepts.
