ABSTRACT

In Section 2.2.3, we discussed two-dimensional warranties and defined four different free-replacement policies (Policies 8–11) and a family of pro-rata policies (Policy 12). A two-dimensional warranty policy differs from the one-dimensional policies discussed in Chapters 4–7 in two respects:

The warranty is characterized by a two-dimensional region in a plane as opposed to an interval in one dimension.

The item failures are events occurring randomly on this two-dimensional plane.
