ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the case study of Stewart. Stewart was 46 years old when he came for evaluation and treatment. He was a consulting engineer to three major software companies. His work was very tedious and technical. The significance of the past history of numerous high school and college injuries is that they act like a cumulative trauma injury effect. All his medication treatment was combined with other therapies for chronic pain to enhance the effect of the other treatments used. The problem mentioned was due to taking a short-acting medication, with a duration of action of 3–4 hours, and trying to make it last all night. By adding the methadone at bedtime, the problem of nighttime withdrawal was eliminated. The chapter presents an aggressive 46-year-old engineer who had chronic back and leg pain after numerous injuries spanning his teen years to adulthood.
