ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to provide data-driven linear orderings of the 58 genotypes and the eight environments. It considers the eight environments reasonably directly, but need to think very carefully about the 58 genotypes. The rank order for the time to flowering among genotypes remains consistent over sowing dates. However, the dispersion between genotypes is greatest for sowings made before the summer solstice, and least for late summer sowings. Photoperiod and to a lesser extent temperature also vary in a regular pattern with latitude, with predictable effects on genotype responses. The pattern described persists, but the absolute time to flower and the degree of dispersion between genotypes varies. In each member of a family of genotypes sharing both parents, e.g. genotypes 1-40 in the soybean experiment, pieces of the genetic material come from either one parent or the other.
