ABSTRACT

The large axisymmetric deflections of a thin elastic shell of revolution under axial loading are studied. Two-dimensional equations of Kirchhoff-Love type are used. This problem is very sensitive to this type of equations, which is why the non-linear three-dimensional equations of the theory of elasticity are used to derive approximate two-dimensional equations. For the case of axial force applied to the shell edges two problems are solved. The limiting value of force and the value of force for post-buckling deformations are found.
