ABSTRACT

To study nucleate boiling heat transfer enhancement by DC and AC applied voltages, this electrohydrodynamic nucleate boiling experiment was carried out under subcooled and saturated boiling. The boiling curve, the onset of nucleate boiling(ONB), the critical heat flux(CHF) and the bubble behavior on a horizontal wire were investigated. In the present study, boiling heat transfer enhancement is more effective under AC applied voltage than DC applied voltage and under subcooled boiling rather than saturated boiling. By increasing the applied voltage, the boiling heat transfer rate, ONB and CHF increased linearly. The behavior of bubbles under DC and AC applied voltages was consistent with a trend of flow visualizations and nucleate boiling heat transfer enhancement
