ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the basics of digital and mixed analogue/digital circuit simulation. It presents a discussion on PSpice digital primitive and stimulus devices. The chapter reviews the PSpice digital components library. To describe a digital component, three statements are required. The first, a digital primitive description statement, defines the component type with input and output nodes. The second, a timing model statement, describes the component timing characteristics such as propagation delays, setup, and hold times. The third, an input/output model statement, describes the component loading and driving characteristics, as well as interfacing nodes. For analogue simulation, PSpice provides voltage- and current-independent sources, which allow the user to generate a variety of analogue input signals. The chapter provides examples of digital and mixed analogue/digital circuit simulations to illustrate the various steps, which include component entry, digital input, waveform generation, and analysis.
