ABSTRACT
Movement toward environmental partnership between government and industry is likely to progress more as a multi-step process than as a clean leap of faith. In the sustainable society, business would incorporate environmental concerns at every step of planning and implementation. Industry would thus be provided with additional opportunities to demonstrate its ability to act responsibly and would increasingly be entrusted to self-direct more and more of its environment-related activities. Movement toward environmental partnership between government and industry is likely to progress more as a multi-step process than as a clean leap of faith. Industry already has forward motion in this regard. Since an individual working in an organization that values environmental protection is more likely to take actions and make decisions that are consistent with those values than he or she would be in an organization that does not, the individual, and consequently the organization, are likely to be considered more trustworthy by other stakeholders.
