ABSTRACT

In November and December 2018, the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) conducted a survey of the media literacy community to begin to gather more detailed information about the what, where, and how of media literacy practice. Data was initially presented at the NAMLE conference in June 2019 along with recommendations on what we need to do to advance media literacy education in the U.S. and what data needs to be collected in order to fully address the question “What is the state of media literacy in the U.S.?” The Snapshot revealed interesting data about what topics are being discussed in the classroom, what materials are being used to teach media literacy and what challenges educators face while integrating media literacy into their teaching. The fully designed report can be found at https://namle.net/publications/somlr/">https://namle.net/publications/somlr/.
