ABSTRACT

The library at Augustana serves a student population of approximately 2,150. Enrollment has gradually increased from just over 2,000 in 1986–87 to a peak enrollment in 1989–90 of 2,241. Student enrollments in the departments of the natural sciences division have encompassed approximately 16 to 21% of total student enrollment since Fall Quarter 1985. Currently, declared majors in the natural sciences are at their highest point (459) since fall of 1982 (490). Degrees offered in the past in the sciences have included biology, chemistry, geography, geology, math, math/computer science, physics, engineering physics, pre-environmental management/forestry, pre-engineering, pre-dentistry, pre-medicine, medical technology and earth science teaching. By far the greatest number of graduates in the sciences are in biology and pre-medicine, followed by math and physics with chemistry coming in sixth. The natural sciences are currently taught by 36 faculty members (about 19% of total faculty).
