ABSTRACT

Williams College is a small liberal arts institution located in the Berkshire hills in the Northwest corner of Massachusetts. The college has approximately 200 full-time faculty members and 2000 students. Its size and relative geographic isolation foster a strong sense of community. The curriculum is divided into three divisions: Division I (Languages and the Arts), Division II (Social Studies) and Division III (Science and Mathematics). A peculiarity of the Williams College campus is that most of the Division I and Division II facilities are located on one side of the campus while Division III facilities are located on the other, a fact which has had major implications for the number and organization of the campus libraries.
