ABSTRACT

When working with children with autism spectrum disorder, Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) have the very difficult job of dealing with deep-seated language deficits, dysfunctional social skills, and severe behavior disorders. RBTs are entitled to a competent supervisor. This is defined by Code 1.02, which says the supervisor should provide services within the boundaries of competence as defined by their “education, training, and supervised experience.” This would be a supervisor that has not taken on more clients and supervisees than can be effectively supervised. When applying for a position at a company, it is important for RBTs to interview with (in addition to the recruiter) the person who will be their supervisor. RBTs are also entitled to receive training that is effective.
