ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on a research project that adapted the business process orientation (BPO) measurement instrument to the Supply Chain Council’s model for describing and measuring supply chains. BPO-related questions were developed, pretested, and used to evaluate the impact of BPO on supply chain decision process performance, or supply chain management, in a cross-industry study. The major core business processes, such as demand creation, demand conversion, product development, customer relationship management, and supply chain management (SCM), are being challenged to meet rising demands and expectations. The concept of SCM has been maturing in terms of theory and practice. Terms such as integrated supply chain management, supply chain optimization, and supply chain collaboration have become the focus and goal of many organizations in the United States and around the world. Global supply chain management has also emerged as a key competitive strategy.
