ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the rationale and design of the study. Based on a discussion of Husserl’s and Meillassoux’ reflections on the crisis of philosophy, it first shows that the crisis of contemporary philosophy consists in a lack of interest in philosophical method. Subsequently, it will be argued that the primary tasks of this study are to raise awareness of the current crisis of philosophy, to raise the question concerning the method of contemporary philosophy, and to encourage readers to start reflecting on philosophical method themselves. After introducing the reason why Heidegger’s reflections on philosophical method are taken as point of departure in this study, its research question, task, and main contributions are sketched, as well as the design of the study.
