ABSTRACT

Serials present many problems for both librarians and library patrons. For librarians, problems generally involve the management and control of serial collections. For patrons, the problems stem from efforts to access and use the collection. While some of the problems are the same for both librarians and patrons, some are different. Through analysis of the local situation, librarians can change some policies and procedures in management to reduce user frustrations. The author describes the efforts of the Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana to minimize the problems of librarians and at the same time increase serials accessibility for patrons.
