ABSTRACT

The literature of technical reports clearly constitutes a vital source of information for almost all areas of science and technology. An increasing number of industrial organizations and private institutions have been engaged in carrying out research and development activities and have been the major producers of the technical reports literature. During the past decade alone, more than $400 billion has been expended in the United States on research and development (R&D). The product of this expenditure has been, for the most part, recorded information in the form of the technical report.
