ABSTRACT

The advent of new technology has changed the teaching role of librarians. The increased role of enduser searching in academic libraries has meant that library instruction is now more important that ever. The experiences of Texas A&M University are examined as an example of a variety of teaching methods employed by one university library to meet the increased demands of its patrons for better enduser searches. Librarians, concerned over inadequate search strategies employed by patrons, design individualized instructions for a variety of databases, provide some individual, one-to-one instruction and teach in group situations employing equipment that allows onscreen projection from a monitor. Remote users have been trained to use the online catalog by development of a specialized training manual.
