ABSTRACT

My charge from the PLA Task Force on Network Relations is to tell you something about Plainfield, New Jersey, its library, our attitudes towards participation in bibliographic networks, and the reasons for our position. Financial considerations, New Jersey’s network, Union County’s efforts, and the role of the public library are also part of the picture. In other words, our decisions concerning automation are interwoven with most of the other major decisions required to determine how best to serve Plainfield; they are often in conflict with the prevailing expectations of other libraries in New Jersey.
