ABSTRACT

Selling safety starts by making safety personal. Having a vision is the equivalent of a growth mindset. A vision lays the groundwork for defining principles, goals and objectives. Vision provides the destination; objectives are the roadmap. Effective strategy gives direction to everyday jobs, but it starts with a vision. In 1904, Henry Ford had a vision to put an automobile in every home and founded the Ford Motor Company. A vision statement has more to do with the future and really describes what an organization, department, team or individual person plans to be in the future. All communications about the safety vision referenced the emphasis on "people" in the corporate vision and mission statements. A vision is meant to inspire and motivate. It also clearly demonstrates an organization's goals to stakeholders.
