ABSTRACT
There are increasing numbers of beat reporters in both TV and even radio news, but most reporters are general assignment reporters. That means that a reporter could cover anything from a school board meeting to an economic story to environment or crime, and so on. This chapter provides a series of definitions of major terms along with important coverage guidelines for business, economy, taxes, crime and legal stories, the environment, geography, government and politics, and health and medicine stories.
