ABSTRACT
This phase of the school year also saw changes and developments in the informal culture of the pupils. As the number of 'unknowns' dissolved in terms of the formal culture of the school, so did they in relation to the informal culture generally, and specifically in terms of one's peers. Identities clarified, and this meant friendships could be more firmly sealed and the boundaries between friendship groups hardened, which in turn altered and influenced identities.
