ABSTRACT

Scientific and technical information is disseminated to scientists and engineers by two processes: formal and informal. The formal process relies on libraries/clearinghouses, librarians/technical information specialists, information products (journals, technical reports, etc) and services, and information storage and retrieval systems. The informal process relies on collegial contacts such as peers, coworkers, colleagues, gatekeepers, and consultants. Both processes are necessary for effective utilization of scientific and technical information. The Redstone Scientific Information Center (RSIC) relies on both processes for dissemination of information.
