ABSTRACT

MS. OKERSON: I heard someone say yesterday wouldn’t it be nice, if there were a database of all the current digital projects that are happening? ARL does have a database of the electronic serials that are happening on the Internet, which we produce in various ways, some for sale and some for free. But an interim daily record of that is also supplied through the ARL project through an announcement called NEWJOUR, which actually happens to run at the University of Pennsylvania because NEWJOUR@CCAT.sas.UPENN.edu has over 2,000 subscribers, and we do have subscribers from the Antarctic who write to us from time to time. So if you’re interested in knowing how that Internet universe is shaping up for journals, you might want to subscribe to NEWJOUR. We’re posting on average now about six new titles a day. They include newsletters, journals, and magazines. This is quite an astonishing growth over the last year. And now we’re starting to post notices from publishers saying we’re putting everything up starting January 1996. And those kind of announcements are interesting to watch, as well.
