ABSTRACT

My aim is to offer you a somewhat different perspective from earlier speakers by burrowing in on one aspect of the economics of information and offering a perspective that is, in some ways, a little more concrete and a little bit more directly tied to institution-level issues. Specifically, I will focus on one matter that Bill Bowen mentioned earlier: the system aspect of this whole business, the tremendous interdependency of the different parts of the U.S. academic system that are involved with scholarly publication.
