ABSTRACT

Questionnaires have been one of the most frequently used methods of data collection in the field of applied linguistics. This is because they are versatile in the type of data they can be used to collect, and they enable the measurement of abstract constructs. This, coupled with the superficial familiarity with questionnaires from everyday life, creates an illusion for novice researchers that questionnaires are a quick and easy fix. Yet designing a good questionnaire is a time-consuming process. This chapter looks at issues related to questionnaire design and how these have changed due to technological advances. It also addresses issues and implications of conducting questionnaires online, which has become the default delivery method for questionnaires.
