ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the kinds of methodological decisions that might face a researcher who is planning to analyse vocabulary in a corpus (or corpora) in applied linguistics. The chapter begins with a brief explanation of what a corpus is and why researchers might use a corpus or corpora in vocabulary research, with examples from vocabulary research. The next section presents some important principles to keep in mind when making methodological decisions about using a corpus in vocabulary research. The final section provides suggestions for tools which could be used for corpus analysis for vocabulary, and some suggestions for further reading.
