ABSTRACT

Max Johannes is a general physical education (PE) teacher at a private middle school, German Village Academy. Max coteaches PE with Tycho. Tycho has taught at the academy for three years and aspires to become an athletic director. He has worked on all the team schedules for the upcoming sport seasons and made the necessary phone calls for field and park permits. Tycho’s responsibilities are important to the athletic programs. However, Tycho is often disorganized in his work, and this is reflected in his pedagogy. Max tends to get frustrated when he coteaches with Tycho. Further, Max asserts that some of the students at the academy misbehave by showing a lack of respect - for example, talking back to the teachers using sarcasm. Max decides that he must become more proactive and focused on creating a positive learning environment to prevent or at least better attend to the disciplinary problems he has with some of the students and ensure the integration of students with disabilities into his classes. However, Max worries about the inconsistencies between himself and Tycho in their teaching behaviors. In this case, strategies for managing the environment and student behavior are presented.
