ABSTRACT

A five-year-old with motor delays participates in the general education curriculum at this elementary school. The physical education (PE) teacher and a student teacher work with an assessment team to determine what modifications and supports this student will require. The PE teacher tasks the student teacher with finding teaching strategies that will work for all students, but he is unsure how to keep everyone engaged and how to teach the lessons with motor delays in mind. After researching the topic, he recreates an existing lesson with the same objectives but modified equipment. The lesson goes well, even with the student having difficulty with some of the activities, but the student teacher realizes it will take more planning and communication to create lessons for all students to enjoy.
