ABSTRACT

Mr. Joseph is a veteran physical education teacher attending the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) America National Convention and Exposition where he learned about behaviorally stated objectives. More specifically, he learned about writing culturally sustainable and relevant behaviorally stated lesson plan objectives for students with (and without) disabilities from culturally diverse backgrounds. Mr. Joseph is pleased to learn that culturally sustaining pedagogy means situating and prioritizing curricular concepts and content in social justice praxis, such as culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogies, to ensure teachers have a strong knowledge and skill base in teaching historically marginalized, minoritized students justly and effectively. In this case, strategies for writing culturally sustainable and relevant behaviorally stated lesson plan objectives for students with (and without) disabilities are presented.
