ABSTRACT

The book, aimed at all researchers (from undergraduate and graduate students to professionals) addresses the rudiments and finer points of creating and using annotated bibliographies in the research-writing process. Chapter 1 introduces the concept of the annotated bibliography. It defines basic concepts and terms used throughout the book, including source, citation (reference), bibliography, annotation, and annotated bibliography. It also explains the difference between an annotated bibliography and related genres of writing, including explanations and illustrative figures of the bibliography, abstract (or precis or synopsis), book review, research paper, literature review, and bibliographic essay. The final section provides an overview of Chapters 2–9, outlining the scope of the book, including what it is (a guide to creating and using various sorts of annotated bibliographies, not a citation manual).
