ABSTRACT

The terms “mediator” and “intermediary” imply the bringing together, or working with, at least two persons or groups, but they can have different aspects. The terms can apply to situations in which the mediator/intermediary helps persons seeking goods or services to find them. On the other hand, the terms can apply to situations in which the mediator/intermediary acts within an adversarial setting, attempting to accommodate, balance out, explain, and elucidate opposing positions. Librarians can be involved in both aspects.
