ABSTRACT

Promoting is the practice of increasing the scope of responsibilities and influence of an employee. A promotion is almost always accompanied by a new job title and may or may not include an increase in compensation. A primary strategy for engaging and retaining principals and district leaders top-performing employees, promoting is an important function within a strategic talent leadership approach. This chapter contains best practices to help principals and district leaders hone in on best practices for facilitating promotions as well as tools for guiding educators, at all levels, through maximizing their career goals. This belief increases the value employees feel toward their organization which, in turn, increases their retention within the organization. Strategic talent leaders not only identify key leadership positions for risk ratings, seek out and name potential successors and clearly communicate promotion opportunities, they proactively facilitate pre-promotion activities.
