ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a general introduction to the argan tree and forest, explaining its significance as a remnant species endemic to Morocco with important ecological functions, and with traditional significance to the Amazigh (Berber) people - especially women. Some preliminary information about the production of argan oil is provided, and explanation about the increasing demand for argan oil globally. The second half of the chapter provides some explanation about the geographically oriented disciplinary underpinnings of the book. The structure of the book is explained, as well as the methods used to conduct the research for this book, and the positionality of the researcher.
