ABSTRACT

The conclusion highlights the relevance of the case studies presented in this book to other parts of the world, and discusses the opportunities inherent to translating this design innovation to other regions. Ladakh is a highly complex environment, and these design ideas have emerged out of deep alignment with the place, climate and culture. However, the work could be instructive to other regions, particularly those places struggling with similar environmental problems. Perhaps most applicable to other regions is the Ladakhi attitude, which includes a willingness to live with change, resourcefulness, and an appreciation for the past without clinging to old ways. This chapter includes a discussion of locavore planning, highlighting the importance of local values and responses. At the same time, climate-adaptive design development must also be understood through the lens of planetary urbanization. The chapter concludes with a paragraph comparing the forced nature of Ladakhi design adaptation to goals for a more intentional path toward sustainability under climate change pressures.
