ABSTRACT

This chapter offers deficit thinking coverage for two countries, India and China. For India, the topics covered are: (a) conquest and colonization of India; (b) ethnic demographic profile; (c) TAG; (d) manifestations of deficit thinking in educational thought and practice. Deficit thinking themes discussed are: (a) hereditarianism; (b) gender inequality; (c) teacher education. In regards to China, the discussion is organized around: (a) ethnic demographic profile; (c) TAG; (c) manifestation of deficit thinking in educational thought and practice. The sole deficit thinking theme is concerned with higher education.
