ABSTRACT
In the last years, the application range for Earth Pressure Balanced (EPB) shields has been significantly extended to coarser grained grounds. This has mainly been possible due to the contribution of the newly developed processes employing foam ground conditioning. As a result, EPB shields can also increasingly be used in mixed face and hard rock conditions.
